A new year brings new music, new artists and gigs galore. I've compiled my tips and triumphs that are waiting in the wings for 2014.
Emerging acts Jungle, George Ezra and Royal Blood are purged for success this year. These acts have already been on the shortlist for the BBC Sounds of 2014, a list that can set an act up for a year of success if played rightly. Unfortunately, none of them took first place, but are the ones that most caught my eye throughout the competition.
Jungle, in very Gorillaz-esque fashion, haven't revealed any facts or even what they look like to the public, relying solely on the music to portray their unique and fresh sound. Word of mouth has created rave reviews for the band and with a live set that is so mysterious, they are bound to create a following in 2014.
Hailing from Bristol, UK, George Ezra brings his bluesy-pop mixture into the picture. After being picked up early by the BBC, he has wormed his way into the music industry and now has support slots with Lianne La Havas and Tom Odell.
Royal Blood offer a unorthodox heavy sound, using only one bass, a drum kit and 2 voices. Simplistic compared to your day to day artist. They still manage to create a deep rock sound that will sound amazing on festival stages this summer.
This year I'll be expecting big things from both Franz Ferdinand and The 1975. Both have already made their marks in their own way and this year should be heading for the stars.
With their newest album, 'Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Actions' released in late 2013, Franz Ferdinand are ready to fill the void they have left since their last album in 2009. Their quirky guitar music could take headline slots at some of the biggest festivals this year, with a bit of success and a back-catalogue longer than my arm. A definite crowd pleaser and would pull in ears of all years.
The 1975 ended 2013 on the biggest of highs, selling out most of their UK tour, creating a massive following in the meantime and finally releasing their eagerly anticipated self-titled debut album. The Manchester lads will be reaching even higher heights this year, with possible other tours and playing slots at some of the biggest festivals all around the world.
There are many new releases set for this year. The likes of Metronomy, Bombay Bicycle Club, Kasabian, The Maccabees and Warpaint all have intention to release new material this year.
Metronomy released new track, 'I'm Aquarius' in late 2013 and are now set to unload a new album on the 10th March, titled 'Love Letters'. A slot at Reading and Leeds festival and others surely on the horizon, with a UK tour added to that will the catalyst to their success in 2014.
New track, 'Luna' has teased Bombay Bicycle Club fans, wetting their appetite for the release of the new LP 'So Long, See You Tomorrow' landing on the 3rd February. Bombay bring their euphoric indie-club tunes to the UK, touring some of the greatest venues the British Isles has to offer. Don't miss it!
Possibly my favourite all-girl band, Warpaint, release their follow-up to 2010 album 'The Fool', with their self-titled second album. Haunting, peaceful and emotion-packed is all I can use to describe the pitch perfect, beautiful sounding 4-piece-band.
Kasabian are another british band set to launch new material in the coming months. No doubt that this will be a success, even though little details have been released so far. A well established band that never fail to create an album of anthems.
One of my favourite bands, The Maccabees are set to release a follow up to the beautiful, 'Given To The Wild' in 2014 and it is personally one I can not wait for. Felix and Co. are sure to staple themselves as one of the best bands in Britain with new material.
